Some Architects see architecture as providing a product: “This is what I do. If you hire me, this is what you get.” They have a defined stylistic vocabulary—a recognizable look. Other Architects see architecture as providing a service: “What is your dream? How can we work together to achieve it?” Their work is notable for its diversity.

The office of Craig Hanson Architect is a sole proprietorship, located on beautiful, rural Vashon Island, in Puget Sound between Seattle, Tacoma and the Kitsap Peninsula. I established the office in 1990, after working in Seattle for small and large architectural and space planning firms for 18 years. At any given time, my workload consists of both on– and off-Island projects. |

Professional services include programming and pre-design analysis, design, construction documentation, specifications, construction administration, space planning, architectural colors and materials, and graphic design.

Registered to practice architecture in the State of Washington in 1979, I hold both Bachelor (1970) and Master’s (1973) degrees from the University of Washington. Married to Susan (Vashon High School Principal) for 36 years, with two grown sons, Matt and Chandler, plus a young character of a cat (‘BJ’, a ‘Humane Society Gray’). We have lived on the Island since 1978.
Personal interests include music (I play piano, organ and harpsichord, and accompany the Vashon Island Chorale), gourmet cooking and wine tasting (Susan and I have been part of a 3 couple gourmet dinner group that has been getting together every 2 months for wonderful meals for over 34 years…), scenic design for VHS and community theatre, and reading. I am active in the Vashon Island Rotary Club, and have served as past-president of the Club, and of the Vashon Island Rotary Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. I have also served on the Board of Directors of the Vashon Health Center, and the Vashon Allied Arts facilities master plan committee. |
